Private Residence in Epanome

The architectural ensemble forms a linear composition of three volumes intertwined with each other, in a single-story building. The concept development reflects upon the architects’ view on the necessity for an open-space, continuous area that integrates comfort and aesthetic quality with the owner’s everyday life and unites the shapes of the three sub-volumes in one.

The main building volume consists of an open space living room and a kitchen with access to the master bedroom, where the Jacuzzi, as well as the courtyard of the house, including a wooden pergola covering a lounge area, are located. Each building volume has its own private courtyard, thus ensuring the existence of small secluded quiet spaces.

The architectural design creates, intentionally unclear, boundaries between the exterior and interior of the building, not only through the presence of the internal linkway but also through the large openings on the building’s shell and its position relatively to the ground.

This kind of volume treatment, together with the extensive use of stone walls, transforms the building’s concrete mass and its pure geometry, and unites its characteristics both with the land and the area that surround them. Natural colors combined with wood and stone, are used for every surface of the building, thus offering a monolithic look, fully integrated in the natural landscape that surrounds it.
